Center for AI to be established in Kaiserslautern
Kaiserslautern is getting a center for artificial intelligence (AI). This is intended to strengthen the development of AI in Germany and speed up its practical implementation, said Volker Wissing (FDP), Federal Digital Minister from Rhineland-Palatinate, to the German Press Agency in Mainz on Thursday.
"Founders, start-ups and companies should have access to the cutting-edge research and test environments of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) in order to test and further develop applications," said Wissing. The aim is to create particularly high-quality AI products in Germany.
The AI center in Kaiserslautern and a second one in Berlin are to be set up by the National Initiative for Artificial Intelligence and Data Economy, which will henceforth bear the shorter name "Mission AI". The initiative is part of the German government's digitalization strategy.
Wissing told dpa: "With its dynamic AI scene and excellent research institutions, Rhineland-Palatinate can make a significant contribution to ensuring that "AI made in Germany" becomes an international synonym for trustworthy, powerful and secure AI." The Minister intends to announce details on this this Friday (November 24) at the "AI as a driver of innovation for Europe" conference in Mainz. In addition to the DFKI, Kaiserslautern is also home to the Rhineland-Palatinate Technical University.
The establishment of the AI center in Kaiserslautern will provide local founders, start-ups, and companies with the opportunity to utilize the advanced research facilities and test environments of the DFKI, facilitating the development and improvement of AI applications. With the aim of creating high-quality AI products in Germany, individuals can leverage the power of the Internet and digitization to innovate and push the boundaries of AI technology.
