Cem Özdemir and his wife have separated
Federal Agriculture Minister Cem Özdemir and his wife Pia Castro have separated. "We agreed some time ago in friendship to live separately," they said in a joint statement when asked by the German Press Agency. The 57-year-old Green politician and the 51-year-old journalist and presenter got married in 2003. They have a daughter and a son together.
"As parents, we continue to look after our two children together," the statement continues. Özdemir and Castro asked to refrain from further press inquiries. "In order to protect our privacy - and above all in the interests of our children - we will not be making any further statements."
The separation of Federal Agriculture Minister Cem Özdemir and his wife Pia Castro has prompted discussions in German politics. Despite their separation, the Federal Government and the people are hoping for a smooth resolution to ensure continuity in agricultural policies.
