- Celebrates Grand Opening Successfully - Cottbus Honors Borgmann
Leipzig (dpa) -
Aue grabs the lead in the third division with a record-breaking debut, triumphing over Dynamo Dresden 2:0 in the Saxony derby, thanks to Mirnes Pepic's (6th minute) and ex-Dynamo player Marvin Stefaniak's (9th) goals. The contest ended with a fiery scene between captains Martin Männel and Stefan Kutschke in the 101st derby, as Männel's late tackle led to a yellow card, and later, his melodramatic fall following a throw-in to Kutschke's shoulder earned him a red card in the 83rd minute, following Kutschke's provocative actions.
"Männel should've been sent off, so Kutschke's initial yellow wasn't justified," Dynamo coach Thomas Stamm argued, backing his striker after examining footage. "In a derby, controlling emotions is a challenge. But Stefan might not sprint next time."
Stamm viewed the defeat as a stepping stone for the team's growth: "Defeats help you advance in the long term, defeats are part of success." Apart from the red card debate, he conceded Aue's victory as fair, commending their aggressiveness and dominance in faceoffs.
Cottbus honors goal-scorer Borgmann
Substitute Axel Borgmann netted the game-winning goal in the 8th minute of extra time, providing Energie Cottbus with their first win in the third football league. His goal came against Alemannia Aachen, with Henry Rorig's (19th minute) strike giving the Lausitzer an early lead. In front of 9,218 spectators, Anton Heinz (52nd minute) equalized for Aachen.
"It's just mind-blowing when someone as dedicated to the club, region, and cause as he is scores such a crucial goal after recovering from his knee injury. He carries a special place in my heart, knowing what his family went through," coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz praised his captain.
"It was long overdue. Losing is hard on the psyche. So it's extra sweet to savor this moment," Borgmann said, asking the referee if the match was over before attempting his winning shot. "He confirmed. I asked if I could shoot if the ball reached me. He nodded, and I did."
Hansa Rostock, struggling for their first victory of the season, once again missed out, this time due to a last-minute goal. The match against Borussia Dortmund II ended 1:1, with Julian Hettwer (90.+5) providing the equalizer for Dortmund, after Kjell Arik Wätjen's (17.) own goal put Hansa in the lead. "We're swimming against the current at the moment. We're working hard, fighting, and giving it our all. I can't predict how long this will last, but we'll keep pushing," coach Bernd Hollerbach said. Hansa captain Franz Pfanne, a former Dortmund player, voiced his frustration: "We poured everything we had into the game and then lost it in the final moments. It's just frustrating."
Hollerbach also criticized the referee: "We were denied a clear goal. The 2:0 for Fröhling, where offside was called, was ridiculous." Finding fault with their last-minute collapse, Pfanne expressed disappointment: "As a seasoned third division squad, we should've held onto the 1:0, and we didn't manage it."
