CDU welcomes raid at IZH: "Ban is finally making progress"
The CDU in the Hamburg Parliament has welcomed the nationwide raids on the Islamic Center Hamburg and its associated institutions. They showed "that the urgently needed ban on the IZH, which we have been calling for for a long time, has finally taken an important step forward," said parliamentary group leader Dennis Thering. At the same time, he criticized the fact that the SPD and the Greens had long opposed a closure. "It is all the more tragic that it took Hamas' bestial terrorist attack on Israel to get things moving. I expect the Federal Minister of the Interior to ban and close the IZH immediately," he said.
Just last week, the governing SPD and Green parliamentary groups, together with the CDU and the two FDP MPs in the city parliament, called for the IZH, which runs the Blue Mosque on the Alster, to be closed down quickly in a joint motion. The Left Party and AfD are also calling for the closure of the center.
The police's raids on the Islamic Center Hamburg and its associated institutions have sparked discussions about extremism within the center. Despite the SPD and Greens' past opposition, Dennis Thering from the CDU hopes that these raids will lead to the immediate ban and closure of the IZH, emphasizing the importance of citizenship and upholding peace and security in the community.
