CDU state leader Rhein: overlaps with SPD simply greater
Hesse's CDU state leader and Minister President Boris Rhein has justified his decision in favor of the SPD as a partner for the coalition negotiations with the current challenges. "The overlaps with the Social Democrats are simply greater at the moment," said Rhein in Wiesbaden on Friday. "Every time has its challenges."
He referred to the many current crises. "Today, the focus is on issues where we need to form a coalition from the center." It would be a good way forward for a Christian-social coalition of the mainstream parties to tackle issues such as internal security and migration. A stable coalition is possible with the SPD with greater overlaps than with the Greens. "That is the reason why we opted for the SPD and not against the Greens."
"The Greens went a long way towards the CDU in the exploratory talks," said Rhein. "But in the end it wasn't enough."
The decision to collaborate with the SPD for coalition negotiations by Hesse's CDU state leader Boris Rhein is based on the notion that the overlaps with the Social Democrats are more substantial compared to other parties, such as the Greens, in addressing current challenges. During elections, the aim is to form a coalition from the center, particularly focusing on issues like internal security and migration, which could be effectively tackled by a Christian-social coalition of mainstream parties.
