Woodland area - CDU pushes for repeal of hunting laws as coalition conflict arises
The CDU party in Brandenburg wants the Agriculture Minister, Axel Vogel (of the Greens), to halt the impending hunting regulations. They're asking for this change to occur by June 1st. If Vogel doesn't comply, the Premier is expected to utilize their leadership authority to stop the regulations from coming into effect. Jan Redmann justified this action, stating that the initiative goes against the interests of rural areas.
The hunting association has also called for Vogel to step down, while the SPD faction has expressed criticism over Vogel's supposed lack of communication with relevant organizations. However, the party's Parliamentary Group head, Daniel Keller, is of a different opinion. He doesn't believe it's appropriate to request the minister's resignation and instead believes it's better to address any issues during the upcoming state election in four months.
The new hunting regulations are intended to boost animal welfare. Consequently, animal traps will no longer be allowed, while beaver and nutria will no longer be considered game animals. This has been met with backlash from the hunting association. Measurements regarding hunting laws have previously failed due to disagreements.
The hunting association is adamant that Vogel resign, while environmental groups applaud the new hunting regulations. The Ecological Hunting Association regards this as a step forward.
