Parties - CDU party conference approves black-red coalition agreement
The Hesse CDU has given the green light for the planned coalition agreement with the SPD at a party conference. The 133 delegates voted in favor of the paper by a large majority on Saturday in Frankfurt. There was one vote against. According to current plans, the coalition agreement is to be signed on Monday (December 18) in Wiesbaden. The SPD also discussed the agreement at a party conference on Saturday. The new state parliament is to be constituted on January 18.
"This is a treaty that brings things together," said Hesse's Minister President Boris Rhein. The promises made in the CDU election manifesto would be kept. It is a policy that strengthens the majority and yet protects minorities.
In view of the many current crises, many people are disappointed and frightened, said Rhein. They had the feeling that democracy was not delivering on a central promise, namely a policy for the majority of people in the country. Rhein called on citizens to regain their trust in politics and democracy.
Around two months after the state elections, the CDU and SPD agreed on the 184-page government program for the years 2024 to 2029.
In the state elections on October 8, the SPD received 15.1 percent of the vote, less than half that of the CDU (34.6 percent). As a result, the Christian Democrats are to receive eight ministries and the Social Democrats three.
Among other things, the coalition agreement provides for a stronger educational offer from daycare centers and schools to craft banks and university lecture halls. The multi-tier school system is to be retained and the number of teachers increased. There are also to be more police officers. The Black-Red coalition wants to significantly limit irregular migration and at the same time strengthen the integration of refugees with the right to stay.
The names of the future ministers are to be announced at the beginning of 2024.
