CDU parliamentary group wants more practical experience in teacher training

The CDU parliamentary group is campaigning for more practical training for the nursery teacher profession in Rhineland-Palatinate. The training should include practical experience in daycare centers, kindergartens and other educational institutions at an early stage, said Parliamentary Director Martin Brandl on Monday in Mainz. This would ensure that graduates are well prepared for their professional careers.

A three-year dual apprenticeship should become the standard, explained Brandl. The CDU parliamentary group is also in favor of a paid pre-study internship of at least six months to enter the profession. The opposition parliamentary group's motion is to be debated in the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament this Wednesday.

The CDU's push for practical training in teacher education extends beyond nursery teachers, as they propose making a three-year dual apprenticeship the standard for all teacher training programs. Furthermore, CDU parliamentary group advocates for a compulsory paid pre-study internship of at least six months in social affairs, such as schools and youth organizations, to better prepare future teachers for their roles.
