CDU parliamentary group leader expects corrections in the 2024 budget
Following a meeting with Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (Left Party), CDU parliamentary group leader Mario Voigt expects improvements to the government's draft budget for 2024. "The government must do its job. It is not yet clear where this is going," Voigt told the German Press Agency in Erfurt on Friday. Voigt reiterated his demand that more money remains in the reserve and that the state's financial cushion is not completely used up in the coming year.
Ramelow's red-red-green coalition does not have its own majority in the state parliament and is reliant on support from the opposition. In recent years, this has been the CDU after mostly tough negotiations. Its parliamentary group leader made a second meeting dependent on what the government proposed. He had actually expected the government to "put something on the table" at the meeting.
Like Voigt, Deputy Prime Minister Bernhard Stengele (Greens) spoke of talks in a constructive atmosphere. "It is clear that there is a common desire not to send Thuringia into a period without a budget," he told dpa.
Voigt emphasized the importance of maintaining a financial cushion within the household budget of the state, suggesting that the reserve should not be depleted entirely in 2024. During the negotiations with the government, he expressed his hope that the opposition's input would lead to improvements in the draft budget for the upcoming year.
