Upcoming local voting. - CDU maintains the district administrator role in the Saale-Holzland region.
Previously, Andreas Heller (CDU) held the office of district administrator in the Saale-Holzland area. He'd filled that role since 2006, but due to the passage of time, he was unable to seek re-election.
Replacing Heller is the 38-year-old Waschnewski, who previously managed Bürgel as mayor. Additionally, he functioned as deputy district administrator and briefly collaborated with Thuringia's CDU leader, Mario Voigt.
The Saale-Holzland region is located in eastern Thuringia and contains roughly 84,000 people. It includes a considerable portion of the economic and scientific hub, Jena. In May, the regional unemployment rate was 4.7%, notably less than the state average of 6.1%. With an average wage of approximately 30,500 euros per employee, the area fell in the middle of Thuringia's income bracket for the previous year.
