Voting Contests - CDU local head Hagel submits his ballot in Ehingen.

In Ehingen (Alb-Donau-District), Manuel Hagel, a leader within the CDU, cast his votes for the municipal and European elections last Sunday. Accompanied by his wife Franziska and their three sons, Hagel headed to the polling station in the Nasgenstadt district at around 10:30 AM. One of the children tossed a ballot paper into the box designed for Hagel.

Hagel is not only the CDU faction leader in the state parliament but is also considered a potential candidate for the top spot in the southwestern Germany election in 2026. The CDU has been partnered with the Greens in a coalition led by Winfried Kretschmann since 2016.

In total, approximately 8.6 million people in Baden-Württemberg are eligible to vote in the municipal council, district council, and local council elections today. As for the European elections, a staggering 7.8 million German residents can make their choice. The State Statistical Office estimates that around 830,000 residents of other EU countries in southwestern Germany have the option of choosing whether to vote there or in their home country.
