Many people in Lower Saxony are increasingly worried about their safety, says CDU parliamentary group leader Lechner. The state must therefore become more effective again.

Parliament - CDU laments dwindling trust in the state

Lower Saxony CDU fraction leader Sebastian Lechner sees a growing feeling of insecurity as a reason for the strengthening of populist parties. "Overall, trust in the state is dwindling and thus naturally so is the sense of security," Lechner told the German Press Agency.

"It's not that people feel it's working. That's a dangerous feeling and for me also an explanation as to why populists on the left and right are so strong at the moment," the CDU politician said after visiting several police stations and disaster relief facilities. He cited growing concerns about violence and the loss of emergency services in the region as examples.

Lechner: Federal government must stop uncontrolled migration

The "Blue Light Family" showed during the Christmas floods in Lower Saxony what they are capable of, Lechner said. However, response teams were often facing challenges such as inadequate equipment. It's not just about more money, but also about more effective structures. So, looking at the clarification of crimes on the internet, the CDU state leader repeated his demand for the storage of IP access data.

The land also needs to support communes more strongly than before in the integration of refugees, Lechner demanded. "There is also a lack of clear direction from the federal government to stop uncontrolled migration to Germany," he said.
