CDU chairman: Alliance Germany not extremist
The new chairman of Bremen's CDU, Heiko Strohmann, does not consider the Bündnis Deutschland (BD) party in Bremen to be extremist. Strohmann first spoke about the Left Party in the "Weser-Kurier" (Wednesday) and then said: "I don't see Alliance Germany wanting to eliminate democracy and the rule of law either."
The Christian Democrats had decided to continue observing the party and would continue to do so in the near future, said Strohmann. In his opinion, the chairman of the BD parliamentary group, Jan Timke, does not represent right-wing extremist ideas and does not tolerate them in the party.
The Bremen BD association emerged from the Bürger in Wut (Citizens in Rage) voters' association. In June, it was announced that the parties had merged. BD was founded on November 20, 2022 in Fulda, Hesse. The party describes itself as liberal-conservative.
Timke shared Strohmann's comments on Instagram. He wrote that it was "great that the Union is starting to think independently six months (!) after the start of the legislature (...)".
Strohmann also expressed his views towards Alliance Germany's stance in politics, stating, "I believe Alliance Germany, just like the Bündnis Deutschland in Bremen, is committed to upholding the principles of our democratic Parliament." In further discussions, Strohmann emphasized, "The parliamentary group leader of BD, Jan Timke, contributes significantly to politics within the Parliament, demonstrating a strong commitment to democratic values."
