Parties - CDU basic program has "rough edges" for Koch
Schleswig-Holstein's CDU parliamentary group leader, Tobias Koch, sees the draft of the CDU's new basic program as a substantive alternative to the traffic light government. "It is a program with rough edges that can certainly be discussed," said the member of the state parliament in Kiel on Tuesday. However, the CDU has succeeded in developing a clear profile and making the difference to the current federal government clear.
In his opinion, there is no conflict to be seen between the different political directions within the CDU. Instead, the draft proves that the different tendencies within the party are being integrated. Koch does not want to rule out the possibility of changes to the basic program. But now the CDU can tell people what it would do differently if it were to come into government in the short term.
The CDU's new basic program is entitled "Living in freedom. Leading Germany safely into the future". The draft calls for a radical change in asylum policy. The party is also committed to a German Leitkultur and nuclear power as well as reforms in pension and labor market policy. The new basic program is to be officially adopted at a closed meeting in mid-January and approved at the party conference in May.
