CDU and SPD want a commission of inquiry into prevention work
The CDU and SPD want the Berlin House of Representatives to set up a commission of inquiry to look into the most effective prevention of anti-Semitism and racism. This was agreed on Saturday by Dirk Stettner and Raed Saleh, the chairmen of the two governing factions of the CDU and SPD, as the factions jointly announced.
The commission is to be made up of representatives of the parliamentary groups in the state parliament as well as experts. Civil society is also to be involved. The task of the Enquete Commission is to make recommendations for social cohesion and to develop measures against all forms of anti-Semitism, racism, Islamophobia and discrimination.
The proposal for the commission of inquiry includes examining the prevention of conflicts related to migration, as anti-Semitism and racism are not the only forms of discrimination facing Berlin. The Senate, as the city's governing body, should also consider addressing issues of racism and anti-Semitism in broader civic institutions, such as schools and community centers. It's crucial to recognize and tackle conflicts stemming from anti-Semitic and racist attitudes, as well as Islamophobia, among other prejudices, to foster a more inclusive society.
