State parliament - CDU and SPD vote in favor of banning the Hamas triangle

The so-called Hamas triangle is supposed to be banned according to the will of the black-red coalition government. A urgency application of both factions received a majority in the plenary session of the state parliament. The inverted red triangle is used by the proscribed islamist terrorist organization Hamas as a symbol, with which they mark their enemies and victims, argued CDU and SPD. It is an immediate threat for Jews and Jews and for people who advocate for the freedom and security of Israel.

Administrative Office is supposed to prohibit the use of the symbol

The spokesperson for the CDU faction's interior policy, Burkard Dregger, said that the goal is to get the Berlin Administrative Office to prohibit the use of the symbol. "Secondly, the federal government should extend the Hamas ban to include the prohibition of the Hamas triangle." The Berlin Senate will represent this at the federal level.

Martin Matz from the SPD said that Hamas is trying to mark people as targets with the symbol. It has received a justified prohibition of use for good reasons. The federal government should also issue an interpretation and clarify that the use of the red triangle is prohibited.

Opposition rejects the urgency application

The opposition parties Greens, Left, and AfD did not vote for the application. It goes beyond the target, said Vasili Franco from the Greens. Total bans are neither covered by assembly nor by freedom of opinion. The context is decisive, and this is also the practice of jurisdiction - as a sign on Palestinian demonstrations, for example, it is not acceptable.

Niklas Schrader from the Left added that the urgency application is completely inappropriate and helpless symbol politics. The red triangle for marking is indeed unacceptable. The symbol has a long history and is also used by other organizations that find themselves in danger of criminalization. "If one wants to put the triangle under penalty, one must clearly distinguish it," he said.

Martin Trefzer from the AfD accused Black-Red of making a showcase application. The Hamas triangle is also only the tip of the iceberg in a city where Jews no longer feel safe.

The proposed ban of the Hamas triangle aligns with the intentions of the current German government coalition, composed of CDU and SPD. This symbol, utilized by Hamas, poses an immediate threat to Jews and advocates for Israel's freedom and security. The opposition parties in the House of Representatives, including the Greens, Left, and AfD, did not support the urgency application to ban the symbol, deeming it excessive and lacking in contextual consideration.
