Now it is the turn of the CDU and SPD party conferences in Hesse: they must approve the negotiated coalition agreement. A new state government can then get started in January.

Parties - CDU and SPD in Hesse agree on coalition agreement

TheCDU and SPD in Hesse have agreed on a coalition agreement. The Deutsche Presse-Agentur learned this from party circles on Thursday morning. Other media had previously reported this. The almost 200-page draft of the coalition agreement with the motto "One for all" is available to dpa.

This Saturday (December 16), the CDU and SPD want to vote on the paper - the Christian Democrats at a meeting of their state committee in Frankfurt and the Social Democrats at a party conference in Groß-Umstadt in southern Hesse. The coalition agreement could then be signed next Monday (December 18), as Minister President Boris Rhein (CDU) recently said in an interview with the German Press Agency in Wiesbaden.

In the past decade, Hesse has been led by a black-green government. The CDU won the state elections on October 8 by a clear margin, after which it was able to choose comfortably between the Greens and the SPD as coalition partners. After exploratory talks, the CDU decided to no longer work together with the Greens, but to aim for a black-red government alliance.

Rhein had said that the coalition negotiations with the SPD had been "very constructive and exceptionally pleasant in terms of atmosphere". The broad process with around 200 participants in more than a dozen working groups had proved its worth.

According to the draft coalition agreement, most ministries will go to the election winner, the CDU. As the junior partner, the SPD will receive the Ministry of Economics and Transport, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and the Ministry of Science and Culture.

The new 21st Hessian state parliament will be constituted in Wiesbaden on January 18.

The coalition agreement between the CDU and SPD in Hesse is scheduled for a vote on Saturday in Frankfurt and Groß-Umstadt. Hesse, currently governed by a black-green coalition, has seen the CDU emerge as the clear winner in the state elections earlier this year. The CDU will primarily hold most ministries in the new coalition, with the SPD receiving key roles such as the Ministry of Economics and Transport. The coalition agreement, titled "One for all", has been described as "very constructive and pleasant in terms of atmosphere" by Minister President Boris Rhein. The new Hessian state parliament will be inaugurated in Wiesbaden on January 18. The SPD and CDU's agreement follows a period of exploratory talks, during which the CDU decided against partnering with the Greens, opting instead for a black-red coalition.
