- CDU and AfD are reportedly closely matched in polls for Saxony's leadership race.
As we approach Saxony's upcoming state election, it appears to be a tight contest between the CDU and AfD. Based on a poll conducted by Infratest-Dimap for ARD, if the election were to take place next Sunday, the CDU would garner 31% of the votes, while the AfD would secure 30%. The Alliance for Progress and Social Justice, headed by Sahra Wagenknecht, would come in third with 14% of the votes. The SPD would receive 7%, with the Greens following closely behind at 6%, and The Left falling short of re-entering the state parliament with just 4% of the votes.
At present, a coalition of CDU, SPD, and Greens governs Saxony. However, the poll suggests that this coalition would narrowly miss securing a majority.
The survey, which polled 1,566 eligible voters in Saxony through telephone or online interviews, is not a prediction but rather an indication of the current political climate. The "Sunday question" is a measure of voter intentions at the present moment, not a reflection of actual voting behavior. Many voters tend to make their final decision closer to the election, making the final stages of the campaign, including targeted outreach to undecided and strategic voters, significantly important.
TNS Infratest, the company responsible for conducting the poll mentioned earlier, is known for its extensive experience in stakeholder surveys and opinion polls across various industries and topics. After analyzing the results, it was revealed that TNS Infratest-Dimap predicted that the CDU and AfD would be the top two contenders in Saxony's upcoming state election.
