Citizenship - CDU: Ampel restructures budget at the expense of citizens
The CDU in the Hamburg parliament has accused the federal government of restructuring its budget, which failed before the Federal Constitutional Court, at the expense of the citizens. Instead of making savings, the plans of the Berlin traffic light government would primarily generate more revenue, said parliamentary group leader Dennis Thering in Hamburg on Wednesday. "In particular, the drastic increase in the CO2 tax will place a much greater burden on all citizens and companies for refueling and heating than previously planned. Instead, the traffic light government should have taken action on the unjust citizen's income and the overly bureaucratic basic child insurance", he said.
Even after the Berlin coalition's agreement on the 2024 budget, it remains completely unclear "how our country and, above all, the weakening economy are to be led into a good future", said Thering. "The traffic light coalition lacks the strength to make the necessary decisions and the previous mumbling will simply continue unchanged."
Less than four weeks after the Federal Constitutional Court 's budget ruling, the leaders of the SPD, Greens and FDP reached an agreement on the 2024 federal budget in an overnight meeting. As Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) said on Wednesday, climate-damaging subsidies are to be abolished, spending by individual departments reduced and federal subsidies reduced in order to plug a 17 billion euro hole in the budget for the coming year.
