Hamburg - Cast for Disney musical "Hercules" confirmed: World premiere

A little bit of heroic saga, a little bit of romantic comedy and a lot of gospel music: on Tuesday, musical theater company Stage Entertainment gave a first glimpse of the new Disney musical "Hercules", which will celebrate its world premiere in Hamburg in March. "'Hercules' has everything our audience wants from a Disney musical: world-famous songs, spectacular stage sets and larger-than-life characters that make us laugh and cry," said Stage boss Uschi Neuss. "Hercules", based on the 1997 Disney film of the same name, is the ninth musical that Stage Entertainment has brought to the stage together with Disney.

The musical tells the story of Hercules, son of Zeus, who is abducted as a baby and grows up among humans. One day he finds out that he was born on Mount Olympus. In order to return to the mountain of the gods, Hercules must prove that he is a real hero. With the help of his loyal friends, he learns that it is not pure strength that counts, but that true heroes are measured by the strength of their heart.

In addition to Benét Monteiro ("Hamilton"), who will play the title role, the cast includes many other musical stars. Mae Ann Jorolan, known from "Hamilton" and "Aladdin", plays Meg, with whom Hercules falls in love. The Lord of the Underworld is played by Detlef Leistenschneider, Hades' overzealous helpers Karl and Heinz are embodied by André Haedicke and Mario Saccoccio. Kristofer Weinstein-Storey will be seen as Phil, Hercules' trainer. Leslie Behann, Chasity Crisp, Venolia, Uzoh and Shekinah Mcfarlane will take on the roles of the five muses.

"We are delighted that we will be able to premiere this lively new version of "Hercules" in Hamburg next year," said Thomas Schumacher, Head of Disney Theatrical Productions. The music by Alan Menken and David Zippel contains all the R&B and gospel hits familiar from the movie. The duo has also written some new songs for the stage version. The lyrics are by Kwame Kwei-Armah and Robert Horn, with direction and choreography by Casey Nicholaw and Tanisha Scott.
