Upcoming Renovation of Carol Bridge Section D by 2025

As per city records, the renovation of a specific section of the Carol Bridge in Dresden was projected to be completed by 2025, with an estimated cost of approximately 8.4 million euros. This section is roughly 400 meters long and consists of three sections linked by crossbeams. A considerable portion of the middle section, where the tram runs, has sadly caved in.

Section A and B of the Bridge Already Renovated

The two outer sections of the bridge underwent renovations recently, and the bridge was once again open to traffic in March 2024. The Carol Bridge, which spans over the federal road B170, tram lines, and bike paths, links the government district with the old town side, and was constructed as a prestressed concrete bridge in 1971.

High Traffic Volume on Carol Bridge

Based on a traffic count conducted in September 2023, an average of 27,100 vehicles used the bridge daily. However, it's important to note that one section of the bridge was under renovation at the time. In September 2022, 31,300 vehicles were recorded daily, emphasizing the bridge's significance as a primary traffic route for Dresden's city center.

Given the high traffic volume on the Carol Bridge, efficient transport and telecommunications are crucial during the renovation process.

Post-renovation, the improved transport and telecommunications on the bridge are expected to enhance connectivity between the government district and the old town side.
