Caregiver allegedly abused elderly people
According to the public prosecutor's office, a geriatric nurse mistreated several elderly people in a nursing home in Seubersdorf (Neumarkt district). The district court in Neumarkt is now deciding whether to bring the case to trial, the public prosecutor's office in Nuremberg-Fürth announced on Monday.
According to the investigation, the 33-year-old man allegedly dragged elderly people across the corridor, beat them and slightly injured them. He himself has not yet commented on the allegations.
Specifically, between 2019 and 2022, the man allegedly used physical measures to reprimand care home residents if he did not like their behavior. He allegedly locked a 90-year-old woman in the home's dementia garden for several minutes in the drizzle. He allegedly grabbed an 87-year-old woman by the arms and dragged her through several rooms of the facility. He is said to have cut off the power to the night bell for a 92-year-old so that she could no longer call for help.
In total, the public prosecutor's office is accusing the care worker of twelve assaults on six women and one man. Investigations against three managers of the retirement home in question have been discontinued. No misconduct could be proven against them.
The nursing profession has faced criticism following the alleged abuse of seniors by a caregiver in a nursing home. Sadly, this incident involves a geriatric nurse who is accused of dragging, beating, and causing minor injuries to elderly residents.
