Show jumping - Careful and fast: victory for Frenchman Julien Anquetin

Better safe than sorry: French rider Julien Anquetin was not only the only clear rider in the jump-off at the international Festhalle horse show in Frankfurt on Sunday, he was also the fastest. The speedy ride on his horse Ice Cube earned the 31-year-old 33,000 euros in prize money.

Belgian rider Koen Vereecke came second with his successful horse Kasanova, while third place went to 29-year-old British rider Graham Gillespie with Veneno. A total of four riders made it into the jump-off, which took place without any German participants.

Instead, the victories in the two other most important show jumping competitions of the tournament remained in Germany. Philip Rüping, who works at Paul Schockemöhle 's stables in Mühlen, won the Champions Cup with Baloutaire. "He is a fast horse. If I hit my rounds reasonably well in the jump-off, I always do well," explained the 39-year-old. Gillespie came second with Veneno, followed by Daniel Lahmann from Groß Denkte with Monty Python.

As in the previous year, the Frankfurt Championships were dominated by Tim Rieskamp-Goedeking, who lives in Steinhagen. It was his 13th victory in an international show jumping competition with his horse Coldplay. "It's really fun with him," said the 41-year-old happily after his victory, more than a second ahead of second-placed Omer Karaevli from Turkey with Avant Toi. Third place went to French rider Edward Levy with Catchar Mail.

There were a few surprises in the dressage four-in-hand arena. With Katharina Hemmer and Borja Carrascosa, there were winners who were not among the favorites. The action was dominated by 29-year-old Hemmer, who works as a rider in the stables of 2004 Olympic team champion Hubertus Schmidt.

She competed with Denoix and won both the Grand Prix and the Special - in each case with a new personal best. "The look on Hubertus' face is always more important than the result," said the rider afterwards with a laugh. "He was beaming and gave both thumbs up." She had only taken over the eleven-year-old Denoix from Schmidt at the beginning of the year.

Benjamin Werndl (Aubenhausen) came second in the Frankfurt Special with Famoso ahead of Svenja Kämper-Meyer (Dülmen) with Amanyara M. The most successful dressage rider in the world, Isabell Werth from Rheinberg, came fourth with the tense Superb.

In the Grand Prix Freestyle, the Spanish rider Carrascosa, who lives in Coesfeld, impressed the judges with his horse Sir Hubert. It was the pair's first joint victory in a Grand Prix Freestyle. Laura Strobel from Cappeln came second with Valparaiso and Maria Pais So Amaral from Portugal came third with Hot Hit.
