School year 2024/2025 - Care assistant: 15% more apprentices

In the coming school year, there will be 15 percent more apprentices for care assistants than in the previous year. According to the Cultural Ministry, 2,100 people will be training, as announced on Sunday. The number of successful graduates also increased by over 750 people, or three percent.

"I am pleased that we are increasing the attractiveness of the care assistant training and thus able to win more young people for this important profession," said Cultural Minister Christian Piwarz (CDU) in the statement. He referred to various measures that have led to increased demand for this training at the over 60 vocational schools in Saxony.

According to the ministry's statements, among other things, easier access conditions for vocational training and offers for lateral entrants, who can reduce the duration of training from 24 months to 12 months, are mentioned. A job-training program in part-time is also possible. People who have been working in care without a diploma until now will have opportunities to qualify. A promotion to the rank of specialist is possible.

Care assistants take care of the basic care of care-dependent people and accompany them in their daily life. They assist under the supervision of nursing staff with medical care.

The increased number of care assistant apprentices in Saxony is part of the Cultural Ministry's efforts to boost the attractiveness of Care Professions. This expansion in training opportunities was announced on a Sunday. The new school year in Dresden will witness 2,100 individuals undergoing this training, representing a 15% rise from the previous year.
