- Car traffic restored on 17 June

After months of closure, the Straße des 17. Juni between Großer Stern and Brandenburg Gate has been reopened. The route is now accessible in both directions, according to the traffic information center on the online platform X.

The section of the street had been closed since early May, including during the UEFA European Football Championship for the large fan zone. In recent weekends, the Christopher Street Day and the Velocity cycling race also took place.

During the long-term closures on the Straße des 17. Juni, the Senate Department for Transport had rejected the proposal for a permanent closure to motor vehicles on the route. There had been discussions about making the route accessible only to pedestrians and cyclists.

However, in the coming days, a camp in the Großer Stern area could still cause disruptions. After a demonstration marking the fourth anniversary of the large "Querdenken" demonstration against the then-current corona measures, initiator Michael Ballweg and other participants remained in Berlin. The Hofjägerallee, which also leads to the Großer Stern, was initially closed for this purpose. After discussions between the police and the organizers, the camp will move to the Siegessäule until August 13, as both parties announced.

Following the reopening of Straße des 17. Juni, cyclists can now enjoy riding on the entire route without interruptions. Despite the temporary closure of Hofjägerallee due to the protest camp, cyclists can still access the area via alternative routes during this period.
