Senate's Bureaucratic Management - Car rental platforms have eliminated illegally operating vehicles.
The authority inspected approximately 8,900 data sets, which came from over 4,300 rental cars registered on any of the three mediation platforms. Around 39% of these cars were being criticized by the authority, as of now. These cars belonged to specific rental car companies where the drivers were also employees. Uber, Bolt, and FreeNow facilitated rides for these companies in Berlin.
Unlike taxis, rides on these platforms can only be booked through the apps. Drivers must return to the base after each ride and cannot pick up passengers on the street without a prior reservation.
The inspection occurred after media reports and findings that numerous cars available on the platforms were operating without the necessary lab approval. In response, the Senate instructed in August that every new car registered with the platforms be examined and disqualified by the state authority. Now, the authority is also checking the vehicles that have been with the platforms for a while.
