B9 - Car racing with children on board? Seven injured after accident

A car with two children on board, which was noticeably too fast on the road, came off the B9 near Koblenz, drove over a grass median, and then collided with another car. The four adult occupants of the second car were seriously, but not life-threateningly, injured at the crash site near the exit Kettig, according to a police spokesperson. The 33-year-old driver and his two 4 and 11-year-old children suffered light injuries. According to the police's initial findings, a prohibited car race may have preceded the accident.

The police identified a second driver who might have been involved in the alleged race. The drivers' licenses and the cars of the two drivers were reportedly confiscated. According to the statement, criminal proceedings were initiated and blood samples were ordered.

The driver lost control of his car due to the significantly excessive speed, the police reported. The four occupants of the car, which was about to join the federal highway, were trapped in the collision. The fire department used rescue equipment to free them from the vehicle. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals. Initially, the B9 in the direction of Koblenz was closed for traffic.

Statement

  3. The accident near Kettig caused disruptions in traffic on the B9, particularly for those wanting to participate in the annual car racing event in the area.
  4. Despite the serious injuries sustained by the adult occupants of the second car, the children in the first car were fortunate to have only sustained light injuries.
  5. Witnesses at the scene reported seeing multiple cars participating in the illegal car race before the accident, leading to further investigation by the authorities.
