A woman was severely injured in an accident on the A19 near Dummerstorf (district of Rostock). A 56-year-old man attempted to overtake the 65-year-old woman's car on Friday, the police reported. The two cars then collided side-on for an initially unknown reason and hit the crash barrier.

The 65-year-old's vehicle then veered off the highway to the right, broke through a wildlife fence, overturned several times, and came to rest in a field. A rescue helicopter took the woman to the hospital.

The highway towards Berlin was fully closed for around three hours, according to a police spokeswoman. The right lane remained closed for another two hours, with traffic diverted past the accident site on the left lane.

The 56-year-old man was questioned by the police about the incident. The presence of police officers was necessary to manage the traffic diversion and ensure safety during the accident cleanup.
