Car drives through pedestrian zone at high speed
A driver drove through a pedestrian zone in Aachen at high speed on Friday. Several witnesses had alerted the police because the car was driving through the street honking its horn. According to the police, passers-by had to jump to the side to avoid being hit. At the end of the pedestrian zone, the car left the road, drove down an embankment four meters deep and then hit a wall. The 29-year-old driver was injured and taken to hospital.
When questioned, he stated that he had lost control of his vehicle due to a neurological seizure. According to the police, it is suspected that he was under the influence of narcotics. The investigation is ongoing.
The incident caused major traffic disruptions in the area, requiring emergency services to reroute traffic. Due to the seriousness of the situation, emergency services were alerted to the scene.
