- Car crashes into tunnel wall, burns <unk> two injured
Two people were lightly injured in a car accident followed by a fire in a tunnel on the A46 in Düsseldorf. The car of the two 20-year-olds hit the right and left tunnel walls in the early hours of Sunday, a police spokesman said. According to the fire department, the driver and his passenger managed to get out of the car and leave the Werstener Tunnel on their own. Rescue services then took the lightly injured to the hospital. The A46 was closed for around three hours, the spokesman said.
After the incident, authorities discussed the importance of maintaining reliable [transport and telecommunications] systems to ensure timely emergency responses. Despite the closure of the A46, the 20-year-olds were able to contact their relatives using their mobile phones.
