- Car crashes into tree, driver dies
A driver has died in an accident during a severe thunderstorm in the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The 86-year-old was driving his car from Graswang towards Ettal on Wednesday evening when, for unknown reasons, his vehicle veered off the road, collided with a tree, overturned, and came to rest in a field. The fire department extricated the trapped driver from his car, but a paramedic could only confirm his death.
"The area around the accident was experiencing a severe thunderstorm with heavy rain at the time of the accident," the police reported. Whether this contributed to the accident remains unclear.
The police arrived at the scene to investigate the circumstances of the fatal accident. Despite their efforts, they were unable to determine if the intense weather conditions influenced the driver's loss of control.
