- Car crashes into railway track - two seriously injured
A car veered off the road in Stuttgart and plunged several meters down onto a railway track, injuring two people severely. The car's automatic emergency call system alerted emergency services, as reported by the fire department. For unknown reasons, the car left the road and plunged into the outer area of a city rail tunnel, with a spokesperson for the fire department estimating the drop to be around seven meters.
The two occupants were trapped in the vehicle. A 32-year-old and a 35-year-old were rescued and taken to a hospital, according to police. The city rail traffic was disrupted at the scene of the accident, affecting line U7. According to the Stuttgart Streetcars, a replacement service was set up.
The automated emergency call from the car likely saved the two occupants, as it was the only call received by the fire department. The accident site is not visible from the road.
The car that caused the accident was a significant factor in the disruption of line U7's city rail traffic. Fortunately, both occupants were able to exit the damaged car after being rescued.
