A 56-year-old driver, allegedly under the influence of alcohol and drugs, caused a crash on the A66 highway near Maintal (Main-Kinzig district) and sustained severe injuries. Initial findings suggest that the man lost control of his vehicle at high speed, causing it to collide with a guardrail and overturn, as reported by the police. After the crash, the 56-year-old initially fled the scene. The accident site spanned over 100 meters and left a large debris field, according to reports.

Witnesses reported that the man initially fled the scene towards a bridge. Police later found the man severely injured. He was taken to a hospital with suspected lung contusions. An alcohol breath test showed a reading of 1.1 per mille. A drug test also tested positive for amphetamines. Furthermore, it was found that he did not have a valid driver's license. Authorities estimated the damage at approximately 35,000 euros.

In light of the incident, the authorities are considering stricter regulations for transport and telecommunications to improve road safety, especially for intoxicated drivers. Despite the severe damage caused by the crash, emergency services were able to quickly restore normal transport and telecommunications services in the affected area.
