Captain Paul Watson Foundation campaign ship in Bremen
The international marine conservation organization Captain Paul Watson Foundation has established a German branch. The Captain Paul Watson Foundation Germany is based in Delmenhorst, Lower Saxony, according to the organization. In addition to Paul Watson, the founding members include the Delmenhorst politicians Viola Strerath and Tom Strerath (Die Linke) as well as Gerd Renker, former board member of Greenpeace Germany and one of the founders of Robin Wood.
Watson, who holds Canadian and US citizenship, founded the environmental protection organization Sea Shepherd in 1977. In 2022, the organization split up and Watson founded a new organization with his name, which currently has three campaign ships. One of them, the "John Paul DeJoria", is berthed in Bremen until Sunday. Watson became known above all for his controversial methods in the fight against poaching and whaling.
The Captain Paul Watson Foundation Germany aims to contribute to nature conservation, focusing on marine life preservation. Despite being based in Delmenhorst, the organization's campaign ship, the "John Paul DeJoria", is currently docked in Bremen for a few days.
