Legalization - Cannabis cultivation associations can submit applications

Associations for growing Cannabis can apply for business licenses in the Southwest from next Monday. The responsible authority is the Freiburg Government Presidium, as stated by the office. They expect to receive a triple-digit number of applications from the so-called Cannabis growing associations in the country - at least 100. Before the deadline, no applications had been submitted, a spokeswoman in Freiburg confirmed on inquiry.

Three months after the release of Cannabis for adults and private cultivation with numerous conditions, a second phase comes into effect on July 1. Non-commercial Cannabis growing associations with up to 500 members can then start. Adults can then cultivate Cannabis together and exchange it among themselves for personal consumption. The clubs must first apply for a license. Regular controls are also planned.

Lahr Association in the Starting Blocks

The chairman of the Holy Green Paradise CSC association in Baden-Lahr, Willi Erling, said on inquiry that he was ready for the regulatory application. "We are well prepared. We are in the starting blocks." He plans to harvest the first crop in his association at the beginning of the coming year.

The association currently has 187 active members. However, there should be more: "I expect that we will fill up in the next few months," said Erling, looking towards the mark of 500 members. He estimates that around 300,000 euros will have to be invested in the association. Therefore, an investor is also being sought.

Authority: Processing of Applications can take time

The applications of the associations can be submitted to the Freiburg authority by post or email. They check, among other things, whether the responsible persons of the Cannabis growing associations are reliable. The health and prevention concept of the associations is also examined, as the spokeswoman reported. The production site must also be particularly secured.

"How long it will take to receive a license depends primarily on the completeness and quality of the submitted documents," reported the spokeswoman. Applicants were already asked for patience beforehand. For monitoring the Cannabis growing associations, the responsible authority is the Government Presidium Tübingen throughout Germany.

As of April 1, possession and consumption of Cannabis for adults in Germany is legal. However, distribution and sale remain prohibited. Anyone who is 18 and older can store up to 50 grams at home and carry a maximum of 25 grams with them outside. It is explicitly about personal use.
