Ice - "Can become slippery": Weather service warns
Drivers and pedestrians in Baden-Württemberg must be prepared for roads and paths that are slippery in places on Monday. According to a spokesperson for the German Weather Service (DWD) in Stuttgart, rainfall is possible throughout the state during the course of the day. "If rain falls in the frost we're currently experiencing, that means black ice," said the spokesperson. You don't need a lot of rain for that. "A few drops are enough and it can become slippery as glass."
There were already isolated cases of dangerous black ice in the Rhine Valley in the morning. During the course of the day, the precipitation front will move further east. In the evening and during the night, freezing rain and black ice must also be expected along the Bavarian border as well as on the Alb and in Upper Swabia.
There will also be more snowfall in the mountains. "One to three centimetres of fresh snow is possible by tomorrow morning", said the spokesperson. It could be particularly dangerous if snow and freezing rain alternate. "I don't want to rule out the possibility of a few more snowflakes falling on the ice surface - and then you can no longer see the ice," explained the DWD spokesperson.
On Tuesday, it should get a little warmer again. Up to two degrees on the Baar and up to almost nine degrees on the Rhine are expected, according to the DWD. In the Black Forest, it may snow again above 600 meters, otherwise there will be some rain in places.
