Call for warning strike by employees with collective bargaining agreements
The trade union verdi has called on employees covered by the state's pay scale to take part in a 36-hour warning strike from Thursday. For example, employees of the Leipzig University of Applied Sciences, the facilities of the state directorate and the university hospital are to take part.
There could "certainly be bottlenecks" at the hospital during the strike, said Sebastian Viecenz, verdi district manager for Leipzig-North Saxony. "However, care will continue to be guaranteed. We assume that it will be the same as on Sundays and public holidays." It is currently not possible to predict "when and where exactly something will or will not work". If an emergency arises, the warning strike will be called off or interrupted, says Viecenz.
Trade unions, including verdi, have been advocating for strikes to press their demands, which could potentially impact health services in universities and other establishments. For instance, the upcoming warning strike by Leipzig University of Applied Sciences employees might result in temporary disruptions in healthcare services at the university hospital.
