A driver has hit a runaway calf with his vehicle on the Autobahn 8 in the Swabian district of Aichach-Friedberg. The animal died at the scene of the accident near Eurasburg, the 36-year-old driver was slightly injured, police said on Tuesday.

A driver has hit a runaway calf with his vehicle on the Autobahn 8 in the Swabian district of Aichach-Friedberg. The animal died at the scene of the accident near Eurasburg, the 36-year-old driver was slightly injured, police said on Tuesday.

The calf had escaped on Monday morning and its owner was unable to find it. It was only discovered late in the evening by road users on the A8 in the direction of Munich before the driver hit the 250-kilogram animal head-on. The car then crashed into the right-hand crash barrier and came to a halt. The car was damaged to the tune of 15,000 euros. The A8 was temporarily closed after the accident. The calf was identified by its ear tag to the owner, who picked it up at the scene of the accident, according to reports. According to the information provided, he will have to answer for negligent bodily harm.
