2022 - An earthquake on the Indonesian main island of Java kills more than 320 people and leaves many missing. The quake southeast of the capital Jakarta had a magnitude of 5.6.
2021 - At a Christmas parade in a suburb of Milwaukee (US state of Wisconsin), an SUV crashes into a crowd of people. At least six people die and around 48 are injured. An act of terrorism is ruled out.
2018 - The Bundesliga clubs speak out in favor of abolishing Monday matches. The fan scene had long been protesting against games during the week that were unfriendly to employees.
2013 - Ukraine halts an agreement negotiated with the EU. In addition, all drafts for a special law on the medical treatment of imprisoned opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko in Germany fail in parliament. Mass protests begin.
1995 - In Dayton (Ohio), the presidents of Serbia, Bosnia and Croatia reach an agreement to end the war in Bosnia.

1783 - Under the eyes of King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, the Montgolfier brothers' first manned hot-air balloon takes off in Paris. The flight lasts 25 minutes.
