Calamity proclaimed in Straubing.

The escalating flood situation on the Danube prompts Straubing's mayor Markus Pannermayr (CSU) to declare a state of emergency. The mayor's decision arose from the demanding nature and complexity of the situation, as well as the large amount of personnel needed, a representative noted on Sunday.

On Sunday evening, the water level of the Danube in Straubing reached more than six meters, as per the city's report. It was anticipated that warning level 4 would be surpassed in the approaching hours. This warning system has four levels, with level 1 signifying minor overflows while level 4 predicts extensive flooding of built-up land.

The city also confirmed that safety precautions were being well-implemented and would not cease. Already, some roads have been shut down as a result of the flood.
