Cab driver protects senior citizen from con artists
An attentive cab driver prevented a 97-year-old woman from Rosenthal am Rennsteig (Saale-Orla district) from losing even more money to con artists. In a telephone call on Monday, the senior citizen was tricked into believing that a family member had had an accident and demanded an allegedly necessary deposit, as the police announced on Tuesday. The perpetrators collected around 20,000 euros from the woman's home and demanded even more money shortly afterwards. The woman took a cab to an ATM. The 37-year-old driver recognized the situation and called the police, who took up the case.
The con artists attempted to scam the senior citizen out of additional money after collecting around 20,000 euros. Thankfully, the cab driver's vigilance helped prevent further crime against the elderly woman.
