Traffic accidents - Cab driver dies - collision with drunk wrong-way driver

A 67-year-old cab driver was killed in a head-on collision with a drunk driver on the Autobahn 7 near Giengen an der Brenz (Heidenheim district). According to the police, a 49-year-old man drove onto the highway against the direction of travel on Wednesday night with a self-propelled work machine, similar to the luggage transport trolleys at airports. The head-on collision occurred shortly afterwards.

The 67-year-old suffered such serious injuries that he died in hospital a short time later. The police tested the 49-year-old man responsible for the accident for more than 2 per mille alcohol on the spot. The man was taken to hospital with minor injuries. He is now being investigated for road traffic endangerment and negligent homicide.
