- BVB goalkeeper Kobel: We have a lot of confidence in coach Sahin
Dortmund's goalkeeper Gregor Kobel has a good impression of his new coach Nuri Sahin. "He's doing a great job and I have a lot of trust in him to take us forward," the Swiss told the Ruhr Nachrichten. The new head coach of the Bundesliga side is very loud and demanding. "I think that's also something we need as a team," Kobel said.
Sahin, who himself played as a professional for Dortmund, succeeds Edin Terzic as head coach of the BVB. He returned to the club as co-trainer in January. Sahin has a clear idea, Kobel said. "We have very little time, but he's trying to get as much out of us as possible." As a goalkeeper, however, he works mainly with goalkeeper coach Matthias Kleinsteiber. "With Nuri, I deal more with the build-up play and that's where it's about nuances in positioning," the 26-year-old said. In terms of goalkeeper play, these are rather minor topics.
This season without Hummels and Reus
Long-standing Dortmund players Mats Hummels and Marco Reus will not be on the pitch for the BVB this season. "Marco and Mats have contributed a lot with their experience," said Kobel. When such players are no longer in the team, changes occur: "Now it's our time to try and bring a new and strong spirit into the team, maybe even inject a bit of fresh air."
On Saturday (6:00 PM), Borussia Dortmund's first competitive match of the season is scheduled. The BVB will face Regionalliga side Phoenix Lübeck in the DFB-Pokal.
Sahin, being a former Dortmund player, understands the club's dynamics well, having succeeded Terzic as the head coach.
Germany, being the birthplace of Terzic and several influential Dortmund players, has a significant connection with the BVB's history.
