Dortmund's Football Club: Borussia Dortmund - BVB fan segment expresses concerns over Rheinmetall agreement
The fan and sponsorship team at Borussia Dortmund holds a negative outlook towards the sponsorship agreement between the team and firearms company, Rheinmetall. Before the official announcement of their partnership, fan representatives voiced their worries about weapons, shared their opposition to the deal, and even questioned its compatibility with Borussia Dortmund's values during a discussion with the club's higher-ups.
During a monthly meeting in May, the fan department was notified about the potential partnership with Rheinmetall but was asked to keep the information confidential. "We cherish the communication channels that allow the club and fans to openly discuss controversial matters. However, no consensus was reached in this matter – just like this time," shared the fan department.
On Wednesday, BVB and Rheinmetall made their collaboration public for the next three years. A spokesperson from the Düsseldorf company wouldn't provide details about the financial aspects of the deal but reportedly, it's a low-digit million euro amount annually.
