BVB and coach Terzic want to dispel frustration
Soccer coach Edin Terzic hopes that Borussia Dortmund will be spared another serious setback just three days after their much-criticized performance in the Bundesliga match against FC Bayern (0:4). "We were very honest with each other and then put a spanner in the works. We want to do better as quickly as possible. We know we have it in us," said the 41-year-old ahead of Tuesday's Champions League clash with Newcastle United (6.45pm/Prime Video), full of hope for a successful recovery from the recent setback.
Borussia's 1-0 win in Newcastle two weeks ago is encouraging. "We showed then that we can hold our own at this level with top performances," said Terzic. Similar to the coach, midfielder Salih Özcan is also confident that Borussia will show a positive reaction to the 4-0 defeat against Bayern: "Everyone has grown up a lot since last season in terms of dealing with such things. Tomorrow we have the chance to show that. I am convinced that we will perform better."
Another win would see BVB overtake second-placed Newcastle (4 points each), who are currently level on points. If bottom-placed AC Milan (2) help their cause at home to Paris Saint-Germain (6), they could even leap to first place in the supposedly toughest Group F.
However, BVB will once again have to do without Emre Can on their way to the round of 16. His injured knee continues to cause problems for the international and is unlikely to allow him to play. "He hasn't trained since the first leg in Newcastle. But we're looking from day to day and haven't given up hope yet." On the other hand, full-back Ramy Bensebaini, who has been struggling recently, will be in the squad.
Borussia Dortmund aims to build upon their encouraging 1-0 victory over Newcastle United in the Champions League, hoping to outperform their recent 0-4 defeat against Bayern in the Bundesliga. Despite Emre Can's ongoing knee injury, the team remains optimistic, with coach Edin Terzic expressing hope that they can clinch another win in the competition. This potential victory could see BVB overtake Newcastle United in Group F, provided AC Milan manages to secure a result against Paris Saint-Germain.
