Bundesliga - Buying a Christmas tree: Gregoritsch's new lucky charm

Michael Gregoritsch's preparations for Christmas Eve have not been accident-free this year. The Christmas fan and SC Freiburg goal scorer has been playing with a cuff since the beginning of December and explained before the away game in the Europa League at West Ham United on Thursday (21:00/RTL) why he has been playing with a bandaged wrist ever since. "I was probably one of the first in Germany to get a Christmas tree and wear it. That's when I got a bit of an injury," said Gregoritsch.

However, this injury did not affect him, on the contrary: in his very first game, the Austrian international scored three goals in the clash with Olympiakos Piraeus (5:0) after a month-long goal drought. "In that game, it was important that my wrist was protected in case I fell. And I'm still in pain, no," he said jokingly. "I'm still wearing it for protection at the moment, but there's a bit of superstition involved." The hat-trick against Piraeus was followed by two more goals in the Bundesliga. When asked how big the tree was, the 1.93-metre tall Gregoritsch, who was in great form on Wednesday, said: "It's taller than me, so it's appropriate."

For Sport-Club, the aim in London is to reach the round of 16 directly. However, after the 2-1 defeat in the first leg, coach Christian Streich's team need a win to oust the English club from first place in Group A.
