- Butkereit in the Olympic final - Judoka has a medal

Miriam Butkereit has secured the first medal for the German Judo Federation (DJB) at the Olympic Games in Paris. The 30-year-old won her semifinal in the 70kg weight class against Austrian world number three Michaela Polleres, ensuring at least a silver medal. This is the biggest achievement of her career. The final is scheduled for 5:38 PM.

Butkereit began her Olympic debut with a bye. In her first match at the Champ-de-Mars Arena, she defeated Australian Aoife Coughlan, followed by a win against Belgian Gabriella Willems. In the semifinal, her opponent Polleres, who won silver at the Tokyo Games three years ago and is trained by former German Judo Olympic champion Yvonne Snir-Bönisch, was favored. However, Butkereit, who hails from Glinde and now fights for SV Halle, won in golden score.

After securing her semifinal victory, Miriam Butkereit is set to compete in the final for the 70kg weight class in Paris. Regardless of the outcome, Paris will always hold a special place in Butkereit's judo career due to her impressive performances at the Olympic Games.
