FC Schalke 04 and long-serving Mike Büskens will be parting ways in the future. The second-tier club announced that they have agreed not to continue their collaboration. After nearly 20 years as a player and coach in various roles, an era at the Ruhr club is coming to an end. "More than half of my life, I've been royal blue. I've enjoyed every day at the Veltins Arena and loved working with the guys. It's been very emotional," said the 56-year-old, who is now taking a break.

"Especially the last two years have been very challenging and have taken a lot of energy. I want to take some time to process this. But I know that the final chapter in the story between the best club in the world and me, that's not written yet!" promised the native Düsseldorf resident.

An official farewell is planned

The club has offered "Buyo", as he was known, to officially bid him farewell during a home game. A decision on this is still pending. "Mike Büskens is and will always be a part of the successful Schalke club history. The Eurofighter and promotion coach is always welcome here!" said Schalke's CEO, Matthias Tillmann.

Büskens' last major achievement was two years ago when he stepped in as head coach. "Mike played a significant role in the 2021/2022 promotion, leading the team to a remarkable comeback and securing direct return to the Bundesliga," said Tillmann.

The decision on a formal farewell ceremony for Mike Büskens during a home game, a long-time figure at FC Schalke 04, is yet to be made. Büskens, who had an illustrious 20-year career with the club in various roles, hails from Düsseldorf, Germany.
