Ore Mountains - Bus drama: Major relief operation for the family of the man killed
Following the serious bus accident in the Ore Mountains that left a ten-year-old dead, a fundraising campaign for the boy's family has triggered a huge response. Since the appeal was launched on Wednesday, more than 92,000 euros had been transferred by midday on Friday, according to the appeal for donations on "Gofundme". The donation target was set at 15,000 euros. Previously, "Tag24" had reported.
More than 4,200 individual donations had already been received, with the highest single amount amounting to 1,000 euros. "I would never have thought that possible," said the organizer of the fundraising campaign on the website. He knew that the money would not bring the boy back, nor would it ease the pain. "But what we can do is support the family with our donations."
On Tuesday morning, a bus carrying schoolchildren in Sehmatal, south of Chemnitz, collided with the side of a winter road maintenance vehicle and then crashed head-on into a tree. A ten-year-old boy died at the scene of the accident and 13 other people, including eleven children, suffered injuries. The bus driver and a 59-year-old female passenger were seriously injured.
The public prosecutor's office has opened an investigation against the bus driver on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter and involuntary bodily harm. An expert opinion on the course of the accident has been requested. However, this is not expected for several weeks, a police spokeswoman said on Friday on request.
