Burning classic car: Flames spread to residential building
The flames from a burning vintage car have spread to a detached house in Hamburg. Nobody was injured in the fire on Saturday afternoon, according to the fire department on Sunday. According to the police, the 62-year-old resident wanted to drive the classic car out of the underground garage of his family home when the engine compartment caught fire due to a technical defect.
When the fire department arrived, the fire had already spread to the roof of the building via ivy growing on the façade. The 62-year-old man was able to get his wife out of the house in time. The detached house is currently uninhabitable. The police are investigating.
The spread of fires from the vintage car resulted in an emergency situation, requiring the intervention of multiple emergency services. The uncontrolled blaze engulfed the residential building's roof, triggering additional concerns for nearby properties.
